MACRO TESTS OVER 40 STUDENTS ON DON BOSCO ANNUAL AIDS DAY

Stand up for an AIDS free future……

It is the wish of Don Bosco Youth Technical Institute to have an HIV/AIDS free generation through their education system. Apart from forming students into good future employees/entrepreneurs and honest citizens, Don Bosco also helps the young people discover their talents through social activities, clubs and sports. It doesn’t just end there, apart from the Salesian Feasts that puts all students together, they also organize some gathering.

It was witnessed by Kondwani Mwenefumbo and Spiwe Mwalwanda from Macro on 22nd January 2014 when they saw a huge crowd of young people willing to have HIV testing after a motivational talk. Students had opportunity to ask questions on HIV/AIDS related issues. This is a big stride towards an HIV free nation as many students flocked to the testing rooms that were prepared on the day.

Kondwani who was the main facilitator on this day, said the getting to zero campaign runs up to 2015 and by then our goals to be achieved include all new HIV infections prevented among young people who use drugs, vertical transmission of HIV eliminated and AIDS related maternal reduced by half and sexual transmission of HIV reduced by half. He also added that there are some factors facilitating new infections including multiple and concurrent partners. He further advised the young people to abstain from sexual behaviors as this is the only sure way of reducing the infection among them. He said young people are the most vulnerable because they form 60% of the total population of Malawi, they are the most sexually active age group and they are at an experimenting stage of their lives.
