The Feast of Mary Help of Christians, which is celebrated every year, was recently observed at the Don Bosco Youth Technical Institute.
The occasion was graced by students, staff members, and the Salesian community, who all came together to honour the mother of our saviour Jesus Christ.
The Mass was presided over by Father Christopher Kunda, the ZMB youth delegate based in Lusaka-Zambia, who delivered an inspiring homily on the significance of the feast. He emphasized that it is crucial to celebrate this feast because of Mary’s influence on the young people who attend the Salesian centers.
Father Kunda mentioned that the feast celebration was more than just a commemoration, it serves as a reminder of Mary’s role as our spiritual mother, who is always ready to assist us and intercede for us before Jesus Christ.
“This feast celebration is especially important for young people who may feel lost or alone in their faith journey. By knowing that they have a mother in heaven who can guide them, they can find comfort and strength to face the challenges ahead”, he narrated.
As per the tradition, the day was not just any ordinary day, it was characterized by various activities that kept the audience entertained throughout the day.
The participants from different sections, groups, and individuals showcased their various talents and skills at the Savio multipurpose hall.
The highlight of the day was the announcement of the section activity winners by the panel of judges.
This year, the Electric Installation and Electronics section stole the show with their impressive performance, earning them the 2023 section activity award. The judges were also impressed with the Information and Communication Technology section, awarding them second place, followed closely by the Tailoring Fashion and Design section in third place.
In addition, the sports council also took the opportunity to officially award the winning teams and some outstanding individuals with various prizes in the just-ended 2023 Mary Help of Christians sports tournament.
The feast was an event to remember for everyone who attended it, people from different walks of life were treated to a free lunch as part of the festivities.
The occasion continued into the afternoon with an array of party games, music, and dances at the Don Bosco Court. The 2023 feast was a wonderful opportunity for people to come together, celebrate, and enjoy each other’s company.
